Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has presented before the Delta State House of Assembly a bill to amend the Delta State Appropriation Law 2015.

Speaker of the House, Hon Monday Igbuya, who read the governor’s request at the resumption of plenary on Tuesday, also harped on the governor’s appeal for “expeditious legislative action” on the appropriation amendment bill.

The budget amendment bill subsequently passed first and second reading on the floor of house followed by a unanimous passage.

This followed debate on the merits of the amendment after the majority leader of the house, Hon. Tim Owhefere, had in separate motions moved that the bill be taken immediately owing to its importance to governance in the state.

Okowa in the letter forwarded to the legislature noted the necessity for a review of the state’s 2015 Appropriation Law due to the reality of the current financial situation of the state, which he presented at his maiden visit to the House on June 25 to intimate the lawmakers with the state of the State.

He recalled informing the lawmakers that the 2015 budget as passed during the Uduaghan administration was “no longer realistic in the wake of the current realities in the country”, urging the House to carefully review the 2015 budget.

This is coming on the heels of the approval by Delta State House of Assembly of the request by Dr Okowa to apply for “bailout loans from the Federal Government through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
