The Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Barr Dan Abia, has stated that no State government from the Niger/Delta is financing projects being embarked on by the federal government in the oil-rich region.

Abia gave this hint on Friday in Abuja when he paid a courtesy call to the Special Adviser to the President on Amnesty Programme (PAP), Brig-Gen. Paul Boroh. He also lamented that there are a lot of misinformation about the commission and other agencies established by the government to drive development in the region.

He said: “It is part of the misinformation…no state is funding NDDC, the NDDC Act made no provision for the state to be sponsoring NDDC.

“It was suggested before the Act became law but no state is contributing, it is from the federal government of Nigeria and the major oil and gas companies.”

He added that “because of the high expectations from the people, they thought the commission could solve all the problems facing the region”, but noted that within the mandate of the commission, it would facilitate sustainable development in the region.
